Sharing a link to your Pow site

Pow is a zero-configuration Rack server for OS X. It makes your Rack projects available on your computer at e.g. http://project.dev, without having to edit /etc/hosts or start up each dev server manually. Forward lets you get a public URL for your Pow sites.

Forwarding a Pow project

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to install Forward.

If you have a Pow project available at http://project.dev, go to that URL in your web browser, then click the Forward icon.

Chrome forward url icon dev

When Forward opens, click the ‘Start tunnel’ button.

Forward will start a tunnel and give you a shareable URL. Give this URL to a client or to other developers on your team and let them review the site before you even deploy to a staging server.

Forwarding a Pow project

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to install Forward.

For instance, if you had a Pow project available at http://project.dev, you could Forward it with the following command:

forward project.dev

Forward will then start a tunnel and give you a shareable URL. Give this URL to a client or to other developers on your team and let them review the site before you even deploy to a staging server.
